Clash in Collectorate - Heated argument between Collector and MLA, Minister angry over road works delay
The review meeting on development and welfare schemes held at Parvathipuram Manyam District Collectorate on Wednesday turned into a ruckus. A heated argument broke out between Collector S. Prabhakara Reddy and Parvathipuram MLA Bonela Vijay Chandra. The internal differences that had been going on between the two for a long time came out into the open in the presence of the District Minister.
The review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Tribal Welfare Minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani and was attended by Government Whip Toyaka Jagadeeswari, Palakonda MLA Nimmaka Jayakrishna, Parvathipuram MLA Bonela Vijay Chandra, Collector S. Prabhakara Reddy and other district officials. The review was conducted on agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, forest, horticulture, women welfare, tribal, social welfare, BC welfare and health sectors.
During this, MLA Vijay Chandra raised the issue of Pedapenki road contract in Balijipeta mandal. He questioned the drainage, removal of encroachments and also changing the contractor. He faulted the attitude of the officials, especially the Collector. Forgetting the minimum courtesy of an IAS officer, he targeted the Collector and made allegations, even raising personal issues and insulting him in front of district officials.
Collector Prabhakara Reddy countered it strongly. "If you have any objections, submit a complaint in writing with evidence. If a road is encroached, should we not demolish it? If a tank is encroached, should we not remove it? Will you yourself give them assurance and then blame us? Are we working as per law or not? Personal issues should not be brought here. Why do you always target officials?" he replied firmly. He clarified that they work according to rules and law.
As both shouted at each other and the situation was going out of hand, Minister Sandhya Rani tried to pacify them. "It is not right for a Collector and an MLA to talk like this. Even when a Minister is present, don't you see? If you have any problems, sit in the chamber and discuss such things," she advised.
Minister Sandhya Rani expressed severe displeasure over the delay in road works. She expressed anger at the attitude of officials asking, "I am telling you once every 15 days, yet you don't care?"
She said that even two months after she took charge as Minister, the tendered Soluru - Makkuva road in her constituency has not yet started. She questioned why there is hesitation with contractors. She expressed dissatisfaction over not starting the Baguwalasa to Makkuva road till date. She instructed the Collector to issue show-cause notices to those responsible. She made it clear that if any road work is not started even after a year of tender, the tender should be cancelled.
